Simon Wilson

Archives Consultant

Simon joined the Changing the Story team in May 2022. As Archives Consultant he was responsible for directing the work to create a digital archive of the project and its key outputs. Simon is a registered archivist with over 25 years’ experience across the Higher Education, local government and museum sectors.

He has been actively working with born-digital archives since 2010 and the issues around the collecting, preservation and providing access to digital material. As University of Hull Archivist I advocated for, and established, a digital archive of Hull’s tenure as UK City of Culture 2017. Working with the City of Culture team we secured over 300,000 files (2.46TB) records that reflected the planning and the creative aspects of City of Culture.

Changing the Story

For Changing The Story it was important to retain the visibility of the resources after the project finished. To achieve this the website was refined - with films, toolkits, articles, blogs brought together into the resource archive. This utilised the Document Library Pro WordPress plugin and has allowed us to bring together the resources without the website visitor needing to be familiar with the three phases of the project.
